BCI North America Winners Announced
The BCI North America Awards 2013 paid tribute to some of the finest talent in the BC industry in North America. The awards were celebrated during Disaster Recovery Journal (DRJ) Spring World 2013, the
world’s largest conference dedicated to business
continuity and disaster recovery.
The BCI North America Awards recognize the
outstanding contribution of business continuity
professionals and organizations living in or operating in the North America Region, including USA
and Canada.
The winners were chosen by an independent
judging panel.
Award Winners
Tom Wagner from Direct Edge, one of the
leading stock exchange operators in the United
States and globally, took the award for Business
Continuity Newcomer of the Year 2013, sponsored
by ITPG.
Aaron Callaway, managing director, Fairchild
Consulting, specializing in business continuity, disaster recovery and information security,
was awarded Business Continuity Management
Consultant of the year 2013, sponsored by DRJ.
Calloway has 17 years of consulting and information technology experience.
Business Continuity Manager of the Year sponsored by ICOR was awarded to Tom Clark, director IT business continuity management services,
Liberty Mutual Insurance. With responsibility for
crisis management, operational readiness, disaster
response, emergency preparedness, and business
continuity for all information technology (IT) organizations, Clark has more than 39 years of experience in senior global IT leadership and more than
30 years of experience in business continuity management in some 500 companies. Clark has personally worked in 45 different countries on six of the
seven continents of the world. In particular, Clark
was recognized for the successful management
of the IT Crisis Management Command Center
during Hurricane Sandy.
CitiGroup, Inc took the Most Effective
Recovery of the Year Award, sponsored by
Recovery Planner, for their Hurricane Sandy
preparations. Having monitored Sandy’s impact
on their operations in the Caribbean, the Citi Crisis
Management Team was activated to prepare for the
landfall in New York City. A command center was
set up to coordinate their response and to ensure the
minimum possible impact on the business.
Business Continuity Provider of the Year
(BCM Product) sponsored by Vizionera, went to
eBRP Solutions for their eBRP Suite, which goes
beyond your standard business continuity management planning tool, providing additional tools to
Incident Managers to support decision-making,
communication and collaboration, including notification tools.
Business Continuity Provider of the Year
(BCM Service) sponsored by the BCI USA
Chapter was awarded to SunGard Availability
Services, which provides a full portfolio of disaster recovery services, ensuring that SunGard
customers don’t have to use redundant servers,
electrical power and other resources to create a
backup environment.
Business Continuity Innovation of the Year
sponsored by the BCI Canada Chapter went to
Fusion Risk Management, Inc. for their Fusion
Framework® System™ with Recovery Tracker™,
which enables IT DR teams to coordinate complex
data center recoveries in enterprise environments
more effectively and efficiently through the automation of flow processes of IT disaster recovery
teams engaged in time-critical recoveries and/or
testing scenarios and through the industry’s first
private social network to enable all stakeholders to
stay connected and current.
Business Continuity Team of the Year, sponsored by Continuity Central was awarded to Delta
Dental, who together bring to the table more than
140 years’ experience in IT and disaster recovery
and business continuity!
Richard L. Arnold, CEO and founder of
Disaster Recovery Journal, received the Industry
Personality of the Year Award sponsored by
FUSION Risk Management, Inc. Arnold boasts an
extensive background in the information system
field, ranging from applications programming to
systems programming. He has been extensively
involved in the disaster recovery field for more than
30 years. Arnold has been innovative in the field of
DR, establishing the first hot-site and cold-site in
the state of Missouri in 1985. In 1987, he founded
the Disaster Recovery Journal, the first publication dedicated to the field of disaster recovery and
business continuity. Besides founding DRJ, Arnold
also was the co-founder of the Disaster Recovery
Institute (DRI International) in 1989 and served as
the chairman of the executive board until August
of 1994.
Two Special Awards
John Jackson received FBCI Honorary
Membership of the Business Continuity Institute.
Jackson has been a leader and visionary in the business continuity industry for more than 30 years and
is a founding partner at Fusion Risk Management.
A 30 Year Service Award to the business continuity industry went to ACP for their continued
efforts in raising awareness across the business
community and for the creation of a strategic initiative to assist small and medium-sized businesses,
which traditionally receive the brunt of impact
from natural hazards and rarely have the resources
to hire full time business continuity planners or
experienced consultants.
