Severe Storm Readiness Tips for
Homeowners from SERVPRO
GALLATIN, Tenn. — The announcement comes
over your TV or radio: there’s a storm headed your
way. What can you do to help protect yourself, your
family and your home?
According to SERVPRO, the answers to those
questions lie in understanding the difference between
a storm watch and a storm warning; in knowing
where to seek shelter if you’re caught by a storm;
in taking precautions as storm season approaches
to minimize the potential for storm-related property
damage; and finally in knowing where to turn for
prompt, professional help if your home or property
does sustain damage.
“While violent storms can strike anytime,
the return of warmer weather typically marks an
increase in the threat of sudden, severe storms with
their accompanying wind, rain, lightning and even
hail,” said Rick Isaacson, Executive Vice President
of Servpro Industries, Inc. “Authorities issue a
storm ‘watch’ when there is the potential for severe
weather. A storm ‘warning’ means that the danger is
imminent. We hope that the following tips* will give
homeowners the information they need to help keep
themselves, their family and their property safe when
the first storm warning hits the airwaves.”

Independent Survey Results: How
Businesses are and will be using
Cloud Storage
NATICK, Mass. –– TwinStrata, Inc., the leading
innovator of cloud-based data storage, backup and
disaster recovery solutions, has announced survey
results, gaining insight into the burgeoning enterprise-class cloud storage market. The survey polled
IT decision makers to gather data around cloud storage use cases and their relevance to data storage challenges.
It’s no secret that many organizations have begun
to look at public and private clouds as alternatives
to traditional IT infrastructure. In January 2012,
Enterprise Strategy Group published their 2012 IT
Spending Intentions Survey revealing that 28% of
organizations surveyed were using cloud computing
services as a way to control IT costs, up substantially
from 13% in 2009.
Cloud storage is one of the many ways that organizations are leveraging cloud services today. With
public and private cloud storage available from a
number of well-known providers such as Amazon,
AT&T, Nirvanix, RackSpace, Google, HP and
OpenStack, and cloud storage gateway technologies
enabling instant integration of cloud storage into
existing IT storage environments, businesses are
examining and/or using cloud storage to augment
existing IT infrastructure as an alternative to traditional storage.

Arkeia Reduces Storage Costs for
Southwest Ohio Regional Transit
Authority
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Arkeia Software, a leading provider of fast, easy-to-use and affordable
network backup solutions, today announced that
the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority has
selected its appliances to provide a complete data
protection solution of both physical and virtual environments in order to reduce the cost and complexity
of managing backup and disaster recovery operations.
SORTA is a public transportation agency serving
Cincinnati and its suburbs, providing more than 17
million rides per year as part of its fixed-route bus
and Access paratransit services. With a data center in
downtown Cincinnati and three satellite data centers
connected by 100Mbps links, SORTA was looking to
replicate backup sets between data centers for safekeeping on disk while limiting tape to archiving in its
main data center. SORTA wanted a single solution
for data protection of both physical and virtual environments, complete with high-compression dedupli-cation to take maximum advantage of limited LAN
and WAN bandwidth.
To protect its four sites SORTA selected two
Arkeia Network Backup appliances: the R220
backup appliance and R220-LTO backup appliance.
Two sites are backed up over the WAN to an R220
Backup Appliance. All backups to each appliance are
replicated to the other. While the replication delivers
required off-site storage, the integrated LTO4 drive
in the second appliance allows tapes to be written for
archiving purposes.
