By BOB ARNOLD
Having recently returned from our 46th conference, Spring World 2012, in Orlando, Fla., I want to take a few moments to reflect on some of the changes I witnessed occurring in the
industry.
For one, the crowd at this conference
was much larger and much more focused on
improving the business continuity industry.
The economy during the past few years
has been hard on travel and education budgets. DRJ has been fortunate to maintain a
decent crowd at each conference. But this
year, it was reminiscent of the glory days
of business continuity when conferences
were packed and new service providers were
emerging daily.
While I walked the halls of Disney’s
Coronado Springs Resort, I was amazed at
how determined each attendee was to make
the most of their experience. I think this was
also a reflection of the recent reduction in
budgets. Now that an attendee was able to
get to a conference, they were focused on
making the absolute most of the experience.
While we’ve always had dedicated attendees,
the participants this year seemed particularly
eager to absorb information and make networking contacts.
Our growing partnership with BCI played
a large part in promoting awareness and
education for our attendees. The Business
Continuity Institute is an outstanding organization whose dedication to the industry
continues to impress me. They bring a new
level of excitement and professionalism to
the field. Our attendees at Spring World 2012
were able to participate in a number of certification courses provided through the BCI,
and gained an enormous amount of valuable
information.
Select attendees also benefited from our
first-ever Senior Advanced Track. This one-day track was dedicated to providing information to the most advanced practitioners and
those holding advanced certification levels.
The reviews from the track were outstanding. I want to thank all of those who helped
to make this event possible, speakers, vendors
and conference personnel.
DRJ strives to continue to educate practitioners from all areas in the industry. This edition of Disaster Recovery Journal provides a
wealth of information on a variety of topics.
Our articles include those focusing on assessing risks and attempting to mitigate any and
all of it. Other features include business cont-nuity project management and an update on
TC 223 and ISO 22301.
You can read all about our Spring World
show in the article on pages 62-65 of this edition. It was an outstanding conference with
a lot of fun and surprises for our attendees.
I hope you enjoy the photos that accompany
the story. I think those are the greatest testament to what our conferences offer.
Information on our upcoming show, Fall
World 2012, is also included in this magazine.
This show will be held in San Diego, Calif,
Sept. 9-12. Early registration discounts are
available. Join the fun of a DRJ conference and
have the educational experience of a lifetime.
One other educational opportunity that you
won’t want to miss is DRJ’s Virtual World
’ 12. This event debuted April 9 but there’s
still time to participate. Check www.drj.com
for registration details.
I hope to see you at a future DRJ event!
